Yoga Without Borders: A Movement of Gratitude, Kindness & Paying It Forward

In a world that often feels divided, hurried, and heavy, yoga reminds us of something beautifully simple: we can choose, every day, to be a force for good.
And when we pair the philosophy of Paying It Forward with the practice of yoga, something extraordinary happens — kindness becomes movement, gratitude becomes breath, and community becomes our shared posture.

Yoga Without Borders was born from this very idea.

At its core, it is not just a program. Not just a journey. Not just a cultural exchange.
It is a living expression of thanksgiving — a way of acknowledging the gifts we’ve been given, and then extending them outward into the world.

Just as Mother Teresa said,
“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”
In Yoga Without Borders, we add:
“If you can’t change the whole world, then change one moment for someone.”

🌍 Yoga as a Ripple of Kindness

The philosophy of Pay It Forward teaches us that kindness doesn’t stop with us — it flows through us. Yoga teaches us something similar: the breath moves, the body moves, and energy moves. Nothing stays stagnant.

In our classes with children, the Rainbow Yoga Wave becomes a playful metaphor for this truth. One pose passes to another, one movement inspires the next — a living ripple. Kindness works exactly the same way.

Imagine this:
One girl in Firozabad receives encouragement from a visiting teacher.
She carries that confidence into her studies.
She helps another student who’s struggling.
That student goes home and shares kindness with her siblings.
And suddenly a single gesture — one smile, one encouragement, one moment — becomes a wave moving across homes, streets, and futures.

This is Yoga Without Borders: a wave of kindness that doesn’t stop at the edge of the mat.

We want to give a special mention to Addie and Deb, who are just completing our very first month at Dau Dayal Girls School in Firozabad.. Their presence truly embodies what Yoga Without Borders stands for—showing up with heart, listening with compassion, and allowing yoga to become a bridge between cultures, stories, and generations. Because of them, a beautiful transformation is taking place within the school—children are opening up, teachers are engaging, and a new lightness is filling the space. This is just the beginning, and we cannot wait for more of you to be part of this movement, this magic, this change.

💛 Thanksgiving as a Daily Practice

We often think of gratitude as something we feel.
But in yoga, gratitude is something we do.

We give thanks through breath.
We give thanks through presence.
We give thanks through service.

And perhaps the most profound expression of gratitude is paying it forward — using our gifts, our time, our blessings, to elevate someone else.

As Churchill said,
“We make a life by what we give.”

In our classes, we teach children to express gratitude in tangible ways:

🌼 Leaving encouraging Post-It notes
🌼 Helping someone in a pose
🌼 Saying something kind in Freeze Tag
🌼 Sharing stories of kindness
🌼 Filling the Good Deeds Jar
🌼 Passing compliments in a circle of connection

These small acts teach children that they have the power to brighten someone’s day — and that this power is available to them every moment.

🤝 Yoga Without Borders: Sharing Yoga, Sharing Hope

Although yoga was born in India, many children from underserved communities have never had regular access to it in their schools. Edu-GIRLS recognized the transformative potential of yoga — its power to build focus, resilience, confidence, and emotional balance — and invited teachers from around the world to come share these tools with their students.

But this project isn’t about “bringing yoga to India.”

It’s about exchange, connection, and shared humanity.

The teachers give their time and love.
The girls open their hearts and minds.
Both sides grow.

As Vandana from Edu-GIRLS said so beautifully:
“Interacting with the international community widens our girls’ horizons and helps them open their wings to fly freely.”

To give back to the birthplace of yoga is not an obligation — it is a blessing.
A thanksgiving.
A way of honoring the roots while nurturing the future.

Acts of Kindness Become Acts of Change

From small gestures — a smile, a helping hand — to bigger ones — volunteering, fundraising, community projects — Yoga Without Borders encourages students and teachers alike to turn their gratitude into action.

Through Project Imagine, children take what they learn on the mat and carry it into their neighborhoods:

📌 Visiting nursing homes
📌 Tutoring younger students
📌 Organizing cleanup days
📌 Bringing joy to families in need
📌 Creating books for hospital-bound children
📌 Being a friend to someone who needs one

These are not just assignments.
They are seeds.
We plant them in young hearts, and they grow into compassionate futures.

🌱 Kindness Without Borders

In Yoga Without Borders, every class is a celebration of humanity — a reminder that even in a world full of conflict, stress, and struggle, good still exists.
Kindness still exists.
Connection still exists.

Every time a child writes a kind note, listens to a story, gives a compliment, or helps a friend into a pose, they are answering Jon Foreman’s question:

“Is this the world you want? You’re making it every day you’re alive.”

And the world they are making is one full of gratitude, generosity, and hope.
